Aquatect offers rock theming and wood theming in a range of styles to match your animal’s habitat. Providing a natural environment for zoo animals is essential to encourage natural behaviours and promote good welfare, whilst also making an engaging display for visitors. Rock theming is the art of replicating natural rock formations using artificial materials such as cement and fibreglass. Using a range of techniques, we are able to produce naturalistic theming to mirror the habitat of the species being housed.
We can work from habitat photos to mimic a specific part of the world or something completely bespoke to the client’s specification.
Rock theming has many benefits over using real rocks. It is lighter weight, which is useful for enclosures which are stacked or held in racking systems, or when theming a wall or vertical surface.
Rock theming also holds a major advantage over real rocks in that it can be custom built to whatever shape you want. This is a particular advantage when you need to fill a space, cover life support systems or hide access doors etc from the public, we’ve got you covered.
We make sure that our rock theming is strong and durable, using the best materials to give a long lasting product. Aquatect has produced stunning displays using our rock theming techniques in zoos, aquariums, colleges and private homes.
