Client: Wigan and Leigh College
Aquatect was commissioned by Wigan and Leigh College to undertake a complete refit of their aquatics and reptile facilities. These rooms are used in a teaching facility catering to students studying college to degree level courses in Animal Care.
In the Aquatics Room, Aquatect installed accessible aquarium racking, designed with
accessibility for wheelchair users in mind. The lower tier can be accessed from a seated position.
The aquariums include anthracite grey steel frame, matt black pvc cladding, acrylic cover panels, black acrylic weirs, 1200mm LED bars, acrylic sump with filter bags, heaters, biological media and pump.
In the Reptile Room Aquatect installed PVC and aluminium vivarium systems including silver anodised aluminium frame, scratch resistant PVC panels, keyed alike lockable doors, stainless mesh ventilation and extra large light reveal space for easy access.
Aquatect vivariums are fully customisable and can be built in virtually any size. The college opted for a clean white appearance but vivariums can be clad in the clients choice of colour or graphic inside and out.
Aquatect offer hinged or sliding lockable doors and can install lightweight realistic backgrounds in a range of materials. Expertly fitted lighting, heating and UV give animals an ideal basking zone and UV index as well as sunrise / sunset LED controllers for optimised for plant growth.
Two large aluminium and toughened glass walk-in enclosures designed for mixed species reptile and amphibian exhibits were also installed. They comprise a 2.4 x 1.2 x 2.4m and a 1.8 x 0.9 x 2.4m walk in enclosure with anodised aluminium frame and toughened glass windows with frosted glass back and sides, keyed alike lockable doors and stainless mesh ventilated ceilings.
The installation makes use of the existing vinyl safety floor, but Aquatect can also install a raised and tanked floor for wetter situations. These enclosures will stand the test of time and are designed, built and installed by the Aquatect team.
